J. C. M. Campbell

Born 1897 died 1979 or 1980 A vocal tenor active (recording) only during 1929 Mr. Campbell was the first conductor of the choir Coisir Lunnainn (the choir which preceded the London Gaelic Choir). During the National MOD of 1927, J.C.M. Campbell, surely one of the greatest Gaelic singers ever to draw breath, won the Mod Gold Medal, in addition to which, he also with his wife won the Duet Competition. A critic noted: "He combines with talent, full of imagination and dramatic instinct, the rhythms and fluent accents of the Gaelic songs with the tone, ease and power of a classical concertist sharpened ". He recorded several 78 rounds for Columbia.
