Project Downshift was founded in March of 2004 by Jeremy Unruh (Drums) upon the restructuring of his band Civil Disturbance. On a referral, Aaron Smith , the former singer of Misanthrope and Area 53 arrives to sweep the band off its feet, with on the fly melodies and lyrics…Preparation Not Included. With instant chemistry, the band decided to make an offer, which Smith graciously accepted. Downshift was born. Soon after, the band fired the original guitarist and lost the second guitarist to father hood, leaving only Unruh, Smith, and Jeremy Hussey AKA Hussey, AKA King of the Hill, AKA Ghetto Superstar (Bass). With the bands first gig already on the books, the band began auditions for new blood. Along comes Cornfed, AKA Brandon Byers (guitar) as the third and last guitarist to audition with two weeks until the first gig…NO PRESSURE! Not only was Cornfed able to learn the songs for the show, but he was able to supply the band with three more of his own, which rounded off the set nicely. Needless to say the show was a huge success and the rest is history. Within four months of evolution as a complete four piece band, Downshift has managed to acquire full sponsorship by Jaegermeister as featured on jagermusic.com, receive radio airplay by Sacramento's own 98 Rock, and spark the interest of a well know producer by the name of Sylvia Massy Shivy who has produced and recorded with Tool, Chili Peppers and System of a Down, just to name a few. The band is currently working on their debut EP at J Street Recorders in Sacramento with a planned CD release date of November 24 th , 2004 . Watch out world, Downshift is here and they mean business. The sound…Intense, dynamic, melodic, grungy, and aggressive.
