Russian-born American orchestral music conductor, songwriter and arranger. Born 22 December 1901 in Saint Petersburg, Russia. Died 13 January 1980 in Haiti. Married to soprano [a914899] from 1938 to 1958 (divorced). One of the pioneers of easy listening music. Four of his albums made Billboard Hot 200. He charted in the U.S. as a songwriter 5 times, all from 1939-40. Four of them were top 10 singles, including the #1 song "Moon Love" by The Glenn Miller Orchestra, (co-written by written by Mack David & Mack Davis). "Moon Love" charted 4 times in 1939: also by Al Donahue and His Orchestra, Paul Whiteman & His Orchestra, and Mildred Bailey. "On the Isle of May" by Connee Boswell made it to #3 (also co-written by Mack David).
