The Amaravi Movement

The Amaravi Movement is a team of musicians that have a good understanding of Nyanja music (traditional music of influences from the shores of lake Malawi). They are the backing band of Peter Mawanga. The original Amaravi Movement (2007): Peter Mawanga (main vocals, nylong string guitar), Alfred Sitolo Nkhoma (bass), Dryson Mwimba (drums), Mayamiko Chimkoka (guitar), Mavuto Milion (marimba) In 2010 Mayamiko Chimkoka left, but around 2009 Faith Mussa (lead guitar) and Joyce Kaliwo (percussion, backing vocals) joined, during the recording of Mau A Malawi - Stories Of AIDS. In 2012 Joyce Kaliwo left for university, and was replaced by Marlyn Chakwera. In 2015 Dryson Mwimba (drums) and Mavuto Milion (marimba) left, and were replaced by Omex Chimpeni from Faith Mussa's band. In 2017 Marlyn Chakwera and Faith Mussa left the band, and until today it still consists of Alfred Sitolo Nkhoma and Omex Chimpeni, currently playing with various guest musicians.
