LEFT NUT began when our punk guitarist, Norm Fitzgerald and 'smash & grab' styled bass player Greg Bull (who'd been playing together in different bands for years) decided to try something new. Enter our wild and lusty vocalist, Wayne Milner and keyboard wizard Bev Hickling for some atmospherics and the basis for `the Nut' was formed. After a succession of drummers (ala Spinal Tap), Matt Pursell joined the band in December '94, adding some pumpy double-kick drumming. We released a six song demo cassette early in 1995 to gain work and have been gigging steadily since then. A five track cassette, "1/2-cut" was released in 3Q96. Nominations for 'Most Promising New Band' and 'Best Band Stage Presence' in the 1996 West Australian Music Awards followed shortly after. Dec 96 saw the release of our first full length CD, LEFT NUT 'uncut', a live recording produced by the band and distributed by Tuntfel Records. It proved to be an excellent promotional and learning tool and received some great feedback. In 1998, shortly after the recording of the Pig's Arse! EP, we saw the departure of Norm to pursue his art (!?) and later Greg due to repetitive strain injuries, (he busted his beer drinking arm). Matt (Scrote) Bovell jumped into Norm's boots and Alex (Papps) Anastas into Gregs as another chapter in the 'Nut's history had begun. In August 1999, and after some remixing and some of Scrote's overdubs, the Pig's Arse!EP was released and is available once again through Tuntfel Records and Left Nut Promotions.
