Brazilian Conductor. Leandro Carvalho is recognized by the public and specialized critics as one of the most expressive musicians of the new generation of Brazilian artists. With a solid musical and humanist background, Leandro has revealed his creativity in concerts and recordings: nine CDs recorded, with emphasis on the rescue and recreation of the work of João Pernambuco, Levino Conceição, João Pacifico and Tom Jobim, and duo work with the masters Turíbio Santos and Baden Powell, and to concerts in Brazil and abroad, such as the debut concert in Europe in July 2002, at the Royal Festival Hall, London, one of the most prestigious venues in Europe, featuring great Brazilian composers. He graduated in Classical Music from Faculdade Santa Marcelina, in São Paulo, under the guidance of guitarist Turíbio Santos, did a postgraduate degree in Orchestral Conducting at the Utrecht Conservatory, Netherlands, under the guidance of Dutch maestro Jurgen Hempel, and, in England, studied with conductors George Hurst, Denise Ham and Rodolfo Saglimbeni. He also participated in the 37th and 38th Campos do Jordão Winter Festivals, in the class of conductor Roberto Minczuk, and in master classes with conductors Valery Gergiev and Kurt Masur. His work as a researcher presents a unique vision of Brazilian culture, summarized in the master's thesis “... and the loud zabumba puts everything in uproar”, prepared under the guidance of writer Ariano Suassuna and presented by the postgraduate department in Social History at the Federal University from Pernambuco. Leandro Carvalho is one of the founders of the Mato Grosso State Orchestra and its current artistic director and main conductor. In the 2006 and 2007 seasons, the Orchestra presented, under his direction, more than 100 annual concerts aimed at different segments of society, with emphasis on participation in the “VI Festival Internacional de Música Renacentista y Barroca Americana 'Misiones de Chiquitos'”, Bolivia , considered the largest baroque music festival in the world, and the recording of the Orchestra's second DVD at the Instituto Itaú Cultural, in São Paulo. In 2008 he was named one of the ten most important classical music artists of the decade in Brazil. The nomination was made by ‘Anuário Viva Música 2008’, a publication specializing in classical music and considered the most important in the sector. At 33 years old, Leandro is the youngest musician on the list, which includes artists with already established careers and well-known to the public and the media. In 2009 he was the only Brazilian selected for the IV Eduardo Mata Prize for Direccion de Orquesta, which took place in Mexico City. Considered one of the most important competitions in the world of orchestral music, the Eduardo Mata Award was known for revealing new talents on the baton.
