Günther Gessert is an Austrian electronic musician, Theremin performer and multimedia artist, member of Institut Für Medienarchäologie. At the beginning of his career, Gessert had been playing guitar and bass in various jazz and pop music groups. He also attended jazz seminars with Adelhard Roidinger and Harry Pepl at the Bruckner Conservatory in Linz. Eventually, Günther Gessert focused on electronic music and started performing on Theremin, custom-built Thercussion, analog synthesizers, samplers, computers and other similar instruments. He became a member of the International Theremin Orchestra. Gessert had been performing as a soloist and in various ensembles and projects, collaborating with Cherry Sunkist, Cordula Bösze, Reni Hofmüller, Andrei Smirnov, Guy Van Belle, Alejandra Perez Nunez, Seppo Gründler, Elisabeth Schimana, Martin Seidl, Wolfgang Fadi Dorninger, Didi Bruckmayr, Mex Wolfsteiner, Elfi Aichinger, Andreas Luger, Hans-Georg Gutternigg, Michael Rüßmann and many other musicians. He also composed and performed music for dance performances and silent films, such as The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, The Adventures of Prince Achmed, and An Andalusian Dog.
