Born in Senegal, Mao emigrated to France at the age of 22 with his first ragga hip hop group, BBC Sound System, to record their first album there. The band, composed of three singers, (Mansour, Kadou and Mao) later merged with the group No Bluff Sound. In 2007, Kadou and Mao created the afro-folk-rock group Ben'Bop with Arnaud Samuel, violinist of Louise Attaque, and hip-hop composer Vincent Stora. The artist set up a home-studio in Paris in 2006, and then another in Dakar, where he has lived since 2012. He makes recordings, mixes and carries out artistic direction under the name of MP (Mao Prod). He released his first solo album, Accent Grave, in December 2014.
