Seyyed Hossein Nasr (b. 7 April 1933, Tehran, Imperial State of Persia) is an Iranian-American philosopher, theologian, and scholar, Professor of Islamic studies at George Washington University, often cited among the leading representatives of the "Traditionalist" school in Perennialist philosophy. Nasr was educated in the United States, earning his Bachelor's in physics from the Massachusetts Institute Of Technology in 1954, followed by a Master's degree in geology/geophysics and his Ph.D. in the history of science from Harvard University. In 1958, Seyyed Hossein returned to Iran, appointed a Professor of philosophy and Islamic sciences at Tehran University. Over the next two decades, Prof. Nasr held various academic positions, including Aryamehr University's President, and established the Imperial Academy of Philosophy under the auspices of Empress Farah Pahlavi. After the 1979 revolution, Seyyed Nasr fled to the United States with his family, teaching Islamic sciences and philosophy.
