Об исполнителе:
Dec. 14, 1937 — May 30, 2011 Richard Dale Applegate, 73, passed away May 30. Since childhood his bliss and his passion was music, and he stayed the course, never wavering, the consummate jazz pianist, his music always swinging, always powerful, always rhapsodic. Each note played in jazz music is a new experience, a unique discovery behind each “door.” Richard was born in Albany, graduated from Albany Union High School in 1956, and above all other places he had visited in the world, he loved this town the best — always returning — for the last time in 1995. During his lifetime Richard performed music in many venues: Southern California, the Bay Area, Washington, Canada and early on in New York City at age 16, playing on the Ted Mack and the Original Amateur Hour on television, then in France during 1957-59 while in the Army. Richard’s devotees heard him most often in Portland for the better part of 50 years where he was a very pivotal force of the jazz scene.
