Norwegian-Swedish opera singer (lyrical tenor), born 5 September 1942 in Edsbyn in Ovanåker parish in Gävleborg county, died 8 January 2009 in St. John's parish in Stockholm. His parents were the Norwegian soldier Arne Haugan, former police officer and later general, and his Swedish wife Anna Gunhild. After studying in Oslo, he returned to his mother's homeland in the mid - 1960s and studied for Margareta and Arne Sunnegårdh at the Stockholm Academy of Music, where he graduated as a music teacher and singing teacher. He also studied for Ettore Campogalliani in Italy. He made his debut as the Duke of Rigoletto at the Oslo Opera in 1971. Other roles included Andres in Wozzeck, Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni, Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, the auctioneer in The Road to the Ruckler, Dr. Cajus in Falstaff, Beadle in Sweeny Todd, Idomeneo, Bacchus in Ariadne on Naxos. He performed at the Oslo Opera, Folkoperan, Norrlandsoperan, Värmlandsoperan, Stora teatern in Gothenburg as well as different international festivals. He worked for example with [a849795], Herbert Blomstedt, Aldo Ceccato and [a880957]. 1993/94 Kassel 1994/95 Anhaltisches Theater Dessau (opera director at this time: Johannes Felsenstein) Haugan also sang in the vocal group Vans Bro's, together with Per-Arne Sjöström, tenor Erik Westling, baritone and Björn Löwgren, bass. He remained a Norwegian citizen for life, even though he was registered in Sweden for over 40 years.
