Ilima Baker

American Hawaiian singer. She became a featured singer at the Niumalu Hotel while still a senior at Sacred Hearts Academy, also in the early 1950s. It was here that her close association with Billy Hew Len and Kalakaua, both later at the Moaha Hotel, began. They were to form the nucleus of an ensemble that was to accompany her during her later professional career. After a successful two-year engagement, she left Honolulu to attend college in San Francisco. While there, she was called upon numerous times by Hawaiian visitors bureau to perform with other Hawaiian entertainers, at promotional events, etc. following her return to the islands. The Moana Hotel featured her for a year and a half until the responsibilities of married life forced her into retirement. She did return to music to record an album.
