Benny Featherstone

Australian musician (trumpet, trombone, reeds, piano & drums) - b. Kingston, Tasmania 30 July 1912 - d. Melbourne 6 April 1977 Moved from Tasmania to Melbourne as a child and later became a self-taught multi-instrumentalist working in various dance bands. Travelled with Les Rapahel's Band to the Far East (1933). Back in Melbourne worked with Art Chapman (1934-1935), and led own band before Joining Don Rankin's Band (1939). With Billy O'Flynn's Band (1940-1941) then joined the Merchant Marine (1942-1943). Went to the U.S. in 1945 and played with Jimmie Lunceford's Orchestra.
