Australian musician (reeds) - b. Redfern, NSW 28 Feb., 1904 - d. Sydney 21 Oct., 1983 Came from a musical family - nephew of John Amadio & brother of Neville Amadio. Taught flute & clarinet by father. Became a member of the NSW State Military band aged 14. Later played in Henri Verbruggen's Sydney Conservatorium Orchestra, and also worked with pit bands in Sydney theatres such as the Regent, Plaza & Tivoli. Participated in radio broadcast arts as early as the 1920 and became a member of the A.B.C. Symphony Orchestra (playing clarinet) for five years from 1932. Appointed Professor of Saxophone at the State Conservatorium in 1941. Had a long-running presence on the A.B.C. with his Mode Moderne Quintet (1940-1958) which included his second wife, pianist Olga Krasnik. Studied in Paris with Marcel Mule during a 1954-1955 strip to Europe. Retired in 1959.
