Ellerston Jones

Australian jazz promoter & songwriter (b. Melbourne 17 August 1923 - Joined a Sydney advertising firm in 1945. Gained prominence as an early jazz promoter. Organised the Sydney Rhythm Club in 1947. In 1948 he began advertising jazz concerts such as "The Battle of the Bands" which became hugely popular. Other concert series he promoted include "The King of Swing Show" and "The Bobbysoxers' Ball". Songwriter & lyricist for numbers like "Jumping' Julia" and "Anytime It's Spring". All this came to a sudden halt when late in 1948 an Australian publishing company hired him as manager of their fast-growing North American office based in Toronto. He left Sydney 28 April 1949.
