US quartet musician-singer pioneer Willie Johnson Jr., member of The Mighty Brooklyn Skyways passed away peacefully on Monday, August 10, 2020, at Northshore University Hospital in Manhasset, Long Island NY. Willie Johnson Jr., son of Willie Connell Johnson (Brooklyn Skyways Founder) and Apostle Sarah L. Johnson (South Road Tabernacle) was born in Brooklyn, NY. He started playing drums at the age of seven (7) for The Mighty Brooklyn Skyways, a quartet group that enjoyed such hits as, “Everybody Wants To Go To Heaven (But Nobody Really Wants To Die),” “May The Work I’ve Done Speak For Me,” and “Unbelievable Man,” all with Peacock Records. In the seventies, The Skyways recorded three albums with Savoy Records now wholly owned by the Malaco Music Group. He also had the privileged to be a member of Doc McKenzie & the Hi-Lites for a stint. He is also the brother of D.A. Johnson (a.k.a. Derrick Johnson; SRT Entertainment, Former Executive Director, Gospel Division Malaco Music Group. General Manager Light Records / eOne), sisters Pastor Cynthia McNeil and Lady Elect Lucinda Pringle.
