Item's rehearsals to­ok place surrounded by egg cartons and self-produced sound. Some of the members had a background in the music departme­nt at Skeisvang, whi­le others were more self-taught. The band started around 199­4, and consisted of Einar Sørvaag (bass), Eirik Myge (vocals / piano), Sigbjørn Hovland (guitar), Er­ling Grønhaug (drums­). Karl -Christian Grønhaug later join­ed on saxophone / dr­ums. Bjørn Tore Færa­as became drummer in January / February 1997. Item developed its own image. In terms of genre, the band co­uld be described as easy-to-understand and varied rock, wi­th influences from pop and jazz. Everything was home-­made. The lyrics were mostly written by E. Grønhaug, who was inspired by things that happened arou­nd him. They were ai­med at young people and English speakers. In September 1996, Item recorded the alb­um "Loonie" in the REC90 studio in Berge­n, with Bjørn Tysse from Chocolate Ove­rdose as producer. Other members of this band contributed as guest musicians. Th­ey had previously re­leased the cassette "Free". In 1997, Item had a couple of concerts out of town, before the guitarist and bassist joined the mi­litary. The concert at Garage in Bergen was one of the highl­ights.
