Jack Hayes was a long term radio DJ and host, Concert Promoter and Consultant. As a promoter, he started a successful concert promotion company with his business partner Larry Mitchell. Hayes and Mitchell presented concerts in the San Diego and the Bay areas featuring Cream (see Cream (2)), [a196766], [a70829] and Jimi Hendrix. As a teenager he worked at KWJJ, KEX and KGON. By the time he was 20, he was the Operations Manager and Chief Engineer for KBAY-FM in San Francisco (The station later changed its call letters to KFOG). After that he worked at KLIV in San Jose, doing mornings . In 1963, Hayes and Mitchell met the group, The Preps aka Preps #1 and the group was taken under the wing. Hayes produced the band's single "Night Theme" / "What?". It has been said that due to Rod Gibino the bass guitarist being sick, Sly Stone played bass on "Night Theme". Afterwards Dick Hanahoe took over from Hayes to work with the band. In 1965 he started work at KFWB in Los Angeles. After that he did mornings at KCBQ. Hayes and Mitchell consulted Top 40 stations on the West Coast, including KCBQ, KLYD, KROY, and KDON. He developed music scheduling software in the 1980s. In 1989 was morning anchor / PD at XTRA-AM in San Diego. He continued along as a management consultant and work with voice-over artists until he retired.
