Julius Felix Nagel (1837-1892) Russian: Юлий Феликсович Нагель Musician-cellist, composer, music teacher at the Alexander Lyceum, was born 18 May 1837 in Gotha, Thuringia, Germany and died 3 September 1892 in Saint Petersburg, Russia (Russian Federation). Nagel received his musical education at the Leipzig Conservatory and in 1862 he came to Russia two years later took up the position of piano teacher at the Alexander Lyceum until his death. Nagel was one of the most active employees of the music magazine "Nouvelist", where he placed many of his small pieces and an even greater number of arrangements. In addition to minor plays and arrangements, Nagel left the opera "Tranello" in 4 acts, which was performed for several years on the stage of the Gothic Court Theater, as well as another opera, the comic "Clairvoyant" in 3 acts. In 1881, Nagel received 1st prize for the "Coronation March" in a competition offered by the Nouvelist magazine. This work was kept in the repertoire of many orchestras for a long time.
