The Keys Music Association, known as KMA, an Australian Jazz music cooperative fostering experimental & other forms of improvised work, founded in 1979 and operating through the 1980s.
“The KMA grew out of a band called Keys, named in memory of a young reed player Martin Keys who died in 1973. The aim of the association was to create performance possibilities for like-minded musicians, through the promotion of concerts and concert series, broadcasts on 2MBSFM, and recordings” Bruce Johnson/Oxford Companion to Australian Jazz
Besides Keys (11), groups that originated and/or worked under the KMA umbrella included Plan B (46), The Benders (2), The Freeboppers, Great White Noise as well as the various KMA ensembles: K.M.A. Orchestra, K.M.A. Sax Quartet, K.M.A. Perc. Ensemble. Artists associated with KMA include Mark Simmonds, Dale Barlow, Sandy Evans, Dale Barlow, Peter Fine (2), Daniel Fine (2), Lloyd Swanton, Greg Sheehan, Louise Elliott, Kevin Hunt (2), Tony Buck, Andrew Gander and Chris Abrahams
