Owned and operated by Victor "Vic" Blacketer (1922-2005), who was born and raised in Estherville, Iowa. He moved to Des Moines, Iowa, in 1940 and attended Drake University to study music. In addition to owning and operating Mastertone (which produced high-quality acetates and transcriptions in addition to releases for retail sale), he was a studio engineer at both WHO-AM radio and WHO-TV. Blacketer also distributed radio broadcast equipment for the Ampex Corporation and designed custom audio installations at regional radio stations including the SAC Air Force base in Omaha.
