WBNY
Настоящее имя: WBNY
91.3 FM, WBNY, is The State University of New York, College at Buffalo, student run radio station. All on-air staff is comprised of current and former students. (Former students were deejays while attending classes at the school.) The station is governed by an executive board (member voted) and is an official campus organization, who reports to the United Students Government. Its yearly budget comes from portions of college tuition (the Student Activity Fee) and has been broadcasting with these call letters and at this frequency since October 16th, 1982. It broadcast with 100 watts for many years, and after a decade push by its executive board, (not even realizing at the time, but coincidentally attempting to stay current with the failing popularity of live radio as digital/on demand listening to music gains in popularity) recently raised its broadcasting power to 1000 watts - angling its signal eastward as to not interfere with Canadian broadcasters near the same frequency.
[The State University of New York, College at Buffalo's first student run radio station, from 1980-1982) was WSCB, broadcasting on carrier current.]
Doing their best to stray from other local commercial radio stations (right in Buffalo and Toronto, Canada for example) programming, WBNY caters to playing music not supported by commercial radio stations and is known for its lean on Buffalo, NY, area music. Over the years, various hosts, and local show formats have taken place, but for the most part, the WBNY Local Show happens some time on Thursday evenings. The local show has been known for hosting live sessions (sometimes with interview interspersed), and for the most part, artists who have played live over-the-air, have released their recordings in some capacity.
WBNY's "Checkerboard Lounge" (cinder block walls painted with black and white blocks), for larger local acts & for smaller acts, Studio B, have held host to live sets from local artists.
