The Bank of London, Mexico and South America was the first foreign bank created in Mexico, being a branch of the English bank The London Bank of Mexico And South America, Ltd. This bank began operations on August 1, 1864.1 when the Austrian archduke Maximilian was emperor of Mexico and Benito Juarez the president of the country.
Finally, with the passage of time, the Bank of London and Mexico was losing penetration. In 1970, it merged with the General Acceptance Company to create Serfín Banking. It is currently part of Santander Bank.
