American public land-grant research university, established in 1791 and located in Burlington, Vermont. University of Vermont (UVM) is one of the oldest universities in the United States and was on the original 1985 list of "Public Ivy" schools (with academic standards comparable to prestigious Ivy League), alongside College Of William & Mary, Williamsburg (Virginia), Miami University, Oxford (Ohio), The University Of Michigan (Ann Arbor), University Of North Carolina At Chapel Hill, University Of Texas, Austin and eight University of California campuses: Berkeley, Los Angeles, San Diego, Irvine, Davis, Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz and Riverside.
