Ya label was also known as « Afghan Music Studio », according some articles found in the Kabul Times of the 70’s. In 1975, an amateur Afghan photographer - Yahya Asefi - also passionate about music decided to invest in recording equipment to create the 1st Afghan cassette label with its own facilities, called "Afghan Music Studio", located in Wazir Akbar Khan, Kabul. The label's cassettes were recognizable by the inscription "Ya" at the top left of the cover. Very varied recordings were produced from Ustad Mahwash to Wali Mohammad Qandahari through traditional music recordings like Malang Nejrabi and Mohammad Naim Mazari. The musicians could repeat before being recorded, this studio was actually an alternative to the Kabul radio station.
