Sint-Pietersabdij, Gent
Настоящее имя: Sint-Pietersabdij, Gent
Former benedictine Abbey of St. Peter's in Ghent (Belgium), founded on the Blandijnberg in the 7th century. It is located next to the associated Onze-Lieve-Vrouw Sint-Pieterskerk, Gent. Throughout its history it remained one of the most powerful religious institutions in the wider region, serving as last resting place for the first five Counts of Flanders. The current exterior dates largely from the 17th century. In 1796 the last monks were expelled under the French occupation and in the century afterwards the location would serve as military barracks and as prison. Around 1950 a restoration campaign was started and currently the abbey serves as a museum and exhibition space.
