World Championship Wrestling

A professional wrestling promotion business, founded in 1988 by wealthy tycoon Ted Turner as a private division of Turner Broadcasting. In 1996, with Turner acquired by Time Warner (now WarnerMedia), WCW was moved under the Warner branch. During this rate, WCW was particularly known for its involvement in the Monday Night Wars with the WWE, until that company acquired WCW in 2001, after a disastrous AOL Time Warner merger, staged contracts and negative reaction from viewers. To this day, WCW, Inc. remains in-name only under the WWE branch, while the other half of the company is rebranded as Universal Championship Wrestling.
