Jet Studios (Vancouver)

Jet Studios was active in the east Hastings & Cambie area of the downtown of Vancouver in 1985 from approximately early May through to the end of July. The space was formerly a bingo hall and was used during the week as a recording facility by The Jet Corporation. On weekends, the space was used for hosting private "rent parties" for invited guests from about 2:00 AM until dawn with the post club crowds frequenting for some proto-rave type entertainment (underground DJs & performers). This space was just one in a series of such venues which would operate for a few months until city authorities would get wind of what was going on and force the closure of the space whereby another warehouse type space would be secured for another couple of months. This scene flourished in Vancouver, BC throughout the early to mid 1980s thanks to inexpensive and readily available warehouse & commercial spaces prior to the gentrification of the city's downtown warehouse districts into up market "loft" style condos in the late 1980s.
