Allan Gibson (2)

Allan Gibson (trumpet/leader) started listening to jazz at the age of 15 in jazz clubs in and around London, including the infamous Eel Pie Island. He migrated to Australia in 1964 and moved to Melbourne in 1977 where he renewed his interest in jazz at the many jazz venues around the city. He bought a cornet for $25 and found musicians like Lou James, Nick Polites and Frank Traynor (his first trumpet teacher) very helpful and encouraging. His band played in and around Melbourne, including two years at Stages Restaurant in Croydon.
