The Bruny Island New Orleans Jazz Band

A Jazz Band from Bruny Island, Tasmania, Australia. ln 1994 trumpet player Allan Gibson moved to Bruny Island from Melbourne where he had led a jazz band since 1980. Suffering from New Orleans deprivation, he was delighted to find a clarinet player and a drummer living on the Island. By April 1995 a regular jam session had developed, with up to 15 musicians/singers playing many different styles of music. Allan gently steered them in the direction of New Orleans Jazz and the Bruny Island New Orleans Jazz Band made its first public appearance in February 1996. Mal Kent and Cliff Wright have been members of the band since it all started, in early 1995.
