Ukrainian American violinist, composer, arranger, and band leader (born August 17, 1894 in Saratov, Russia – died January 24, 1961 in Bay Shore, West Islip, Suffolk, NY) Pawlo Zamulenko, a.k.a Pawlo Zamoolenko or Paul Zamoulenko. Zamulenko emigrated to the United States in July 1927. He settled in New York City and became a naturalized citizen in January 1934. By 1940, he had shortened his name to Paul Zam, lived with his wife Irene in Bay Shore, West Islip, Suffolk, NY, and worked in the Old Russian Bear Restaurant in Manhattan. With his own band, Zamoolenko's Orchestra, on Brunswick sometimes billed as Caucasian Novelty Orchestra, he recorded around a dozen titles for Brunswick and OKeh between November 1927 and February 1928. He also was a member of Dimitri Kornienko's Kornienko Ukrainska Orchestra. Zamulenko composed a number of songs, including "Ukrainski March" and "Pid Verbami" (Under the Pussy Willows), which were released by a band called Ukrainska Orkestra on Victor V-21137. With Dimitri Kornienko, he composed a series of folk dance songs, such as "Bosfor," "Kavkas," "Chaifa," and "Stambul."
