Ukrainian American musician and band leader (born May 21, 1888 in Russia – died possibly in 1943 in New York, NY, U.S.A.) Kornienko emigrated to the United States in November 1923, settled in New York City, and became a naturalized citizen in 1930. Between 1927 and 1929, his band recorded widely for Banner (as Novelty Polish Orchestra), Brunswick (as Kornienko Ukrainska Orchestra), Okeh (as Kornienko's Ukrainian Orchestra, Kornienko's Ukrainian Band, Šokiu Orkestra, and Russkyi National Orkestr), Columbia (as Atlantic Orchestra), and Victor (as Continental Orchestra). In the early 1940s, he recorded for the World Transcription Company. Starting in 1943, his widow Anna released a number of very successful folk dance titles by the Dimitri Kornienko Ensemble on Kismet (3), the label of her Manhattan record store. He composed numerous songs, some in collaboration with Pawlo Zamulenko.
